I am a medical student and i want to ask why would a patient have one side chest pain in the pulmonary embolism ( physiology) ?

Pulmonary embolism: It need not be. It depends upon the location of the embolism. If it is bilateral embolism then there would be bilateral pain. When there is pulmonary embolism, it causes lung ischemia, pain receptors from that zone will be stimulated and it causes pain.

PE: Pe cause pain as it causes infarction of the affected part. If there is involvement of the pleural then pleurisy would be one of the symptoms as well.
