That : That is an extremely low hemoglobin. You must have a complete evaluation. I am assuming you have already had an endoscopy and colonoscopy by a gastroenterologist; if not you need to do so immediately. If that is negative you will need to see a hematologist (blood doctor) for a complete evaluation. If you have weakness or faint then you will need to to go the er. Please arrange an immediate thorough evaluation of your anemia if it has not already been performed.

Vitamin C: Iron absorption is helped by vitamin c intake, so make sure your are getting plenty of this. Drinking a glass of orange juice to take your iron can be an easy way to remember. It can take quite awhile (6 months) for someone to replete their iron stores. That being said, i would want to see your HGB going up within 1-2 weeks of starting the iron. Your reticulocyte count should also go up.
