Hello. : Hello. Agree with the previous input from dr. Kardener. There are excellent medications for obsessive compulsive disorder - many of them are in a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Although these are antidepressant medications they are also used for anxiety disorders. Obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder. I hope that you are able to get help, so you can start feeling better. Take care.

You : You describe feeling absolutely miserable and I am not sure why you have focused especially on the issue of ocd. It is possibly in the "mix" of what you describe but there are other conditions that may be present. For example, sleep apnea could account for a lot of the symptom picture as could thyroid problems especially low thyroid. In the psychiatric realm anxiety and depression are prominent diagnosis that have such a symptom picture. In short then you need a good physical and emotional examination. The question of how to get it on the fixed income you describe may be a problem depending on the community resources where you live. I do not know from your description if you are disabled and if so do you have some health coverage that might be part of the benefits. In some areas there are free clinics where people can be seen without charge and be given good service. Certainly if you are a veteran, the va may be of help. There are treatments for the symptoms with which you suffer but the very first step is to find out what the diagnosis is that most likely accounts for these symptoms and then receive the proper treatment for that condition. If you can contact your county health department, they may be able to better guide you to an appropriate and available facility from which you could get services. You certainly present with what is a dilemma in the United States of how to best give decent health services to the greatest possible population and especially those who like yourself are seeking relief. Do try to find out as there can be help.

No cure: OCD itself is not generally curable, but it can be managed with treatments - both a special variant of CBT therapy and a host of medication options are available. Careful assessment and accurate diagnosis are the foundations of good treatment outcomes.
