Can invisalign correct overbite? if so, do 1 or 2 teeth need to be pulled out to make room to push the overbite back in? also, how much the retainer post the alignment cost? should the quoted price for the procedure include pulling out teeth and the ret

Answer: : Answer: invisalign is a great treatment appliance to resolve many types of tooth alignment problems. However some types of occlusion (bite) problems are beyond the ability of the invisalign appliance to resolve completely to an optimum result. Whether or not you will need to have teeth removed in solving your biting problems, or use different approaches such as rubber bands/elastics, can only be determined by consulting with a university trained orthodontic specialist. After taking diagnostic records (models, pictures and x-rays ) of your face, teeth and jaw bones the orthodontic specialist would then be able to advise you of what would be appropriate in your situation. The orthodontic specialist would also be able to help you evaluate the advantages and disadvantages to any possible options for your treatment plan in resolving your dental bite problems. The procedures and expenses involved in possible tooth extraction, additional procedures like circumferential gingival fiber re-alignment, and the ending retainer appliance, retention and supervision time, are all separate of the actual invisalign treatment, tooth movement and bite correction procedures. Your orthodontic specialist may decide to include some of these separate procedures and expenses within the total treament fee for your particular treatment plan. Some orthodontic specialists prefer to separate out each procedure so that you are aware of the cost and commitment your specialist has made to provide specific procedures for you. An orthodontic specialist typically limits their practice to just orthodontic and orthopedic treatment procedures. It would be typical for your orthodontic specialist to refer you to your general dentist or to an oral surgeon for proceedures like extraction of teeth.

Yes. : Yes. By overbite i presume you mean the protrusion of the upper front teeth extending forward of the lower front teeth. This correction can be achieved using invisalign tooth aligners. Space creation can be performed between the teeth, called interproximal reduction (ipr), to pull these teeth backward to reduce the protrusion, though this treatment modality has limitations based on the degree of protusion and thickness/width of the upper front teeth. Invisalign treatment can also retract the upper front teeth by employing the removal of 2 top teeth (traditionally bicuspids). The maintenance of the position of the posterior teeth (called anchorage) is vital to the success of this treatment. Posterior tooth position can be reinforced using temporary anchorage devices (tads) or zygomatic bone plates, which are another type of "skeletal anchorage". Finally, using tads or skeletal anchorage, it is sometimes possible to reduce dental protrusion without the removal of teeth. While the cost of retainers varies, most orthodontists include this fee in the total treatment fee, since orthodontic treatment requires the "retention phase" of treatment. Retainers should not be considered an "ala carte" option on your "orthodonic menu"! on the other hand, the removal of teeth should be performed by your general dentist or an oral surgeon who may be better equipped to perform this procedure with multiple types of anesthesia. I hope that this answer helps you in your decision-making process!

Yes: Invisalign should correct your bite. The orthodontists will need to determine if teeth need to be pulled or not-- its a case by case answer. The costs for pulling teeth would likely not be part of your qoute as that would/should be done by a dentist or oral surgeon, not the orthodontist, but the retainers after ortho should be included.

Yes, it often can.: Overbite can be corrected with invisalign but the specifics (including the need for extractions) can only be determined by an evaluation with your licensed orthodontic specialist. Fees for retainers may or may not be included in the costs of treatment - it's best to ask at your initial examination.

Depending on amount: Invisalign canbe used to correct an overbite depending on the severity of the problem. The decision for extractions to aid in correction of an overjet/ overbite probem can be made after careful evaluation of models and radiographs by an orthodontist. Extractions are usually completed by an oral surgeon or a dentist, not the orthodontist. Retainers are commonly included in the treatment fee.

Rarely well: Protrusion of the upper front teeth that require removal of 2 upper teeth is a well used and successful orthodontic treatment. Only in the hands of the most gifted clinician could this be done with invisalign, if the dr. Is a gp and has limited training it is recipe for poor treatment. Root angulation and positioning are all important, and braces make much more sense. Extractions are extra cost.

Limits: Aligners can reduce minimal overbite, but are statistically only about half as effective as braces. If extractions are required treatment may exceed the capabilities of clear aligners to resolve. Extraction Fee will be charged by the Dentist who does the extractions,; it's not part of Orthodontic Fee. Retainers usually included in overall orthodontic fee. See Ortodontistic Specialist.
