It : It is not uncommom for a small root tip to break off during an extraction. It is not necessarily negligence. It may have been determined at that time that it was more risky to try to remove the broken piece than to leave it and see how you heal. Are you in pain, or are you swollen, or is there any numbness? If not, then it might be better to leave it. It is not a foreign object. Over time, it may slowly work it's way to the surface where it can easily be removed without any risk. Only examination of your current condition will give you the treatment options that you can consider.
