Fullness : Fullness or swelling in the area of the web space can be from swelling of the metacarpophalangeal area or in the tendon sheath of the flexor tendon in the palm. One of the more common things is stenosing tenosynoviits or trier finger that may present as pain in the tendon of the middle or index finger and swelling. Other things may include early inflammation in the mcp joint anfthe index and middle fingers tend to be more inflamed in those with an inflammatory synovitis or arthritis. I always check the palm to look for tenderness when someone presents with a complaint of swelling between the fingers as that seems to be the typical scenario and its amazing how often there is a little bit of irruption in the flexor tendon of at the palm. Arthirits of the mcp joint can also give fullness and swelling the skin of the dorsal or top part of the hand is much looser than the skin of the palm so things that affect the hand may be seen at the top and in this case at the web space first other things that can cause fullness or swelling in the web space are infections or certain types of abcesses but it would be very unusual to have that as a bilateral finding and an infection would be tender red hot and swollen and typically painful.
