Some nerve pinching?: Is it one hand or both? All the time numb or only some of the time. Carpal tunnel classically only affects the hands and not up to the elbow. Ulnar tunnel syndrome can pinch the nerve in the elbow area and then you feel it down to the fingers. It is best idea to see a doctor and get a good diagnosis. They may need to do nerve conduction studies to get the most exact idea of the problem.

Carpal tunnel: This may be a symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome. You often can have numbness with sleep with your hands in a certain position and you also get it when driving for long time. I would make an appointment with your medical doctor to evaluate this as well as medical problems that can cause numbness.
