Painful finger: Infection of a finger is a common problem. Infection can range from mild to potentially serious. Often these infections start out small and are relatively easy to treat. Failure to properly treat these infections can result in permanent disability or loss of the finger. See your doctor.

Trigger finger: Sounds like swelling in the tendon that gets stuck in its sheath. Usually worse in the morning because hands often swell at night. Usually resolved by a cortisone injection. See your local hand surgeon.
