Woke up with a painful n swollen index finger knuckle(where it attaches to the hand) no idea what i did to injure it. what can i do at home 2 help it?

Cold pack: If no idea how/why suddenly swollen, then might be infection, or gout (but odd for your age to be there). Can keep eye on it & cool compresses to see if swelling goes down. If does not, or if increases, should see dr / urgent care for examination to see what is going on.
