Herpes : Herpes simplex virus has 2 types. Hsv type 1 is usually associated with coldsores about your mouth and is very common. This virus is activated by illness, stress, sunlight. Hsv type 2 is genital herpes and is sexually transmitted. In your situation with an elevated hsv type 1 titer, you have had coldsores in the past, not genital herpes. You will be fine. Please try not to worry. Best wishes.

Common diagnosis: If you have mouth sores get them evaluated and if they are painful they should be treated. Have a competent dentist or physician check you out. I would not depend on a lab technician's opinion--though it might be correct!

Relax, man: Eighty percent or so of healthy folks have HSV1 antibodies on board. It's transmitted by normal touch, especially getting kissed as a baby. Not to do that would be a shame. Do you actually get fever blisters? The history and physical exam is far more helpful here. I see no point in ordering HSV1 antibodies. Even HSV2 antibodies aren't that sensitive or specific.
