No. For you, yes.: Herpes 1 and 2 are "different animals." They are not the same virus, but they cause similar skin lesions and similar problems. They are contagious in the same way. As they say, "It's location, location, location." That means herpes 1 on a sexual location is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Herpes 1 on a non-sexual location is not an STD.
