A member asked:

How long does ear surgery typically take to reshape both earlobes? i've always disliked the look of my big earlobes. now i've learned that there is an ear surgery procedure that can make them smaller. will i be awake throughout it or under anesthesia?

Ear : Ear lobe reduction surgery should be able to be done with an injection of local numbing medicine in an office procedure room setting. If you want you could certainly be sedated, but this isn't usually needed. Ear lobe reshaping normally can be done in under an hour, depending on what techniques are being used.

Less than an hour: This is a relatively simple procedure for a qualified facial or plastic surgeon. I would anticipate that you could have it done with some local anesthesia and possibly light IV sedation and tolerate it quite well. Recovery should be 1-2 weeks and minimal postoperative pain.

About an hour.: The earlobe is very easy to numb-up, so earlobe reshaping is ordinarily performed under local in the office while you are awake. If the idea of being awake makes you uncomfortable, there are other options for anesthesia including local with sedation or general anesthesia, but local alone is the simplest and safest.
