Pain medicine: The surgery typically will be performed with a local anesthetic so you shouldn't feel much after the injection. This will leave the area numb so you can be comfortable during the procedure. Your surgeon should then provide a prescription for a pain medicine for you to take as needed after the local anesthetic wears off.

Probably not: The local and is that it is probably going to last a long time, so he will do fine postsurgery, where you will have a dressing placed on your ear. Plus you will be given pain meds to keep the pain for a short period time afterwards.
