Unfortunately : Unfortunately we just don't understand how crps works or how to treat it well. Some people have spreading symptoms, though not too commonly. I would certainly want to make sure the diagnosis was made by a reliable physician, to assure nothing else could be going on.

CRPS: Crps is a poorly understood abnormality of the sympathetic nerves of an extremity. Chronic severe pain in one area often leads to changes in how one moves. This increases strain on other muscles and joints which can lead to pain in other areas over time. The disorder doesn't typically spread, but can so i recommend he discuss his changing symptoms with his physician.
