Maybe: Disability is awarded when a person cannot provide for their own income because of a disability. This is difficult to get for children with adhd since they have not reached adulthood to know their ability to work.

Disability: Disability for a diagnosis of only adhd is difficult to substantiate as it does not "very seriously limit his or her activities" if properly treated by a mental health professional. There may be additional disorders (i.e. Autism, learning disorder, depression, neurological condition) complicating the diagnosis that need to be ruled out. All states are different; i would speak to an attorney, too.

About 25 years ago : It was possible for some children with primary adhd to obtain SSI & medicaid. As stated, SSI psychologists & psychiatrists now determine level of cognitive & adaptive functioning + level of support needed for children to function in the community. They'll request records from all your kids' doctors, educators & therapists to help determine if a "severe emotional disturbance" is present.

Depends: My sis worked at the state reviewing these cases for a while. It was very low on the priority list, given state guidelines& those that were approved often had multiple other problems & were in a modified school setting. You can apply, but if your kids attend regular schools, consider it a long shot.
