Depends on med: Targeting school days is a way to reduce the overall exposure of a kid to the long term side effects of medication. The school systems focus teaching @ certain hours & meds increase the attention/focus of kids during those hours. For evenings or weekends when the kid is off enjoying childhood, the med can be used if necessary for sports teams, tutoring etc.

Depends: Depends on the child, the family, the intensity of symptoms, and social, and family activities that are carried out during the week and on weekends. There is no right and no wrong. If the child needs the meds to have a well regulated day, please use the meds, if the child does well and a parent does not have to constantly correct his/her behavior then do not.If side effects are concern, see your doc.

JUDGMENT CALL: I expect a child to be learning all day every day - not just in school. The mind doesn't shut off. If a child has a sufficient problem with attention and focus that he can's learn from his weekend experiences he needs meds. If he creats family difficulty because of the adhd, he needs meds for himself and his family. I havent seen children damaged by properly prescribed meds in 40 years.
