ADD meds: It has been suggested but this just leaves the child unmediated when the schedule is now more hectic and there is less supervision and the support when the meds wear off. It might be time to allow to have longer day med than during school year even, due to more chaotic schedule especially in sleep away like experiences

Medicine summer brk: Giving summer break for ADHD medicine doesn't necessarily help your child with the daily activities in cases of moderate to severe symptoms. If your doctor and you have determined that such med is needed, then think of the medication to help them in their daily activities with a less agitated mind. Specific side effects like insomnia, loss of appetite or mood changes may need dose or med change.

Focus on child: Medication helps kids focus during times when this is needed. Classtime is the typical setting, but structured summer activities may be another. Sunday school another. I am favor of a summer and weekend off of psychostimulants like ritalin, (methylphenidate) when possible, but not as an all or none process.

Not necessary: It is not necessary to give chilodren a summer holiday from ADHD medicine. If the medicine is helping yoiur child socialize, manage friendships and helps with management at home, I would keep up the medication. If these are not concerns, there is no harm in giving a medication holiday.
