Those the tests done after that to confirm it. Random blood sugar test. Glycated hemoglobin (a1c) test. Fasting blood sugar test. Autoantibodies that are common in type 1 diabetes. The presence of ketons in the urine.

Carefully/quickly!!: Ideally bood test - if sugar >100 in am, >140 2 hours after eating he has pre-diabetes. >126 am, >200 2 hours after eating = diabetes if use urine 'dipsticks over-the-counter- even 'trace' sugar = diabetes. Get patient to pediatrician soonest!
