Can diverticulitis cause my small intestine to get blocked?

Typically no but....: Diverticulitis usually refers to the colon. The inflammatory process can be so severe that it can make the small bowel adhere to it and kink, causing an obstruction. Although very rare, one can also get diverticula of the small bowel, and these could potentially perforate or obstruct.

Yes: A significant episode of diverticulites can cause small bowel to become matted and bound up in the inflammatory mass which can lead to a small bowel obstruction.
