A member asked:

Do dentists know how to treat wounds on the body that do not involve teeth and gums?

Some do: Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have extensive training in treating trauma to the face. They often repair lacerations to the face.

Not advisable.: Dentists are trained and licensed to treat wounds associated with the oral cavity. A wound on your arm, for instance, is not under their field of expertise. A physician is better qualified.
