Root or nerve pain: Is there also any neck pain? Has there been any injury to that side of the body? Other than that, it sounds that the pain is radiating down the arm to the finger, called radicular pain. This would suggest a nerve or nerve root involvement. It would be important to have the neck and shoulder evaluated by physical exam, possibly by xray or mri. A nerve test called an EMG might also be revealing.
