One or more fingertips become swollen, red, and painful and then alternate in the other hand the other day, other fingers, etc. sometimes symmetrical. sometimes palms swell. also symmetrical wrist, elbow and shoulder pain too?

It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. You may have Raynaud's disease and it would be prudent to see a doctor, preferably a rheumatologist.
