Dentist first: How do you know that you truly have tmj/tmd? Need to see a dentist first and then find out if you need to see an ent, another dr. Or a TMJ specialist.

Dental professional: Seek out a dental professional who is comfortable with diagnosis and treatment of jaw pain. Usually this will fall under the general dentist or orthodontist specialty. As an orthodontist, i treat many TMJ cases each year. Usually starting with splint therapy to diagnose and treat the pain. Braces are frequently used to rearrange the teeth to support the good TMJ function after splint therapy.
