Common birth defect: Cleft lip(cl) and palate (CP) are among the most common of all congenital deformity. The incicence is rising due to environmental teratogens, lower neonatal mortality, increased marriage and child bearing among cleft patients. They are most common in american indian(3.7/1000), japanese (2.7/1000), chinese (2/1000), caucasian (1.7/1000), black (.4/1000). Cl more common in male, CP more in female.
