I had a barium swallow today. i drank water and ate high fiber foods and 2 fiber choice capsules. now i have cramps, gas and diarhea. is this normal?

Barium: Yes regretfully barium does generally constipat. If this was twenty years ago i would say you did all the right things to prevent but most of the barium products used today already have substantial amounts of fiber included. Generally maintaining hydration is adequate. I believe this will pass but if increasing pain or fever seek medical attention.

Yes: This should be self limiting. All that fiber is undigetable and will cause gas and cramping. If it does not resolve in a day see your physician.
