A member asked:

My dr asked to do a trac on a family member who was been on respirator 10 days today from aspiration pneumonia... is this the best/right thing to do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Those who are intubated longer than 10 days have higher respiratory complications. When done correctly the tracheostomy can be a very good procedure that prevents respiratory complications and even help the patient come off the respirator in some cases.
