Talk to your doctor: The first step is to determine if a living related kidney donor is a match for your body's immune system. This can be done through tests that a transplant nephrologist or transplant surgeon can order.

See below: Let the donor know to contact the transplant dept to get worked up starting with blood group. The transplant dept will then also make sure you undergo testing and examination for clearance to get a transplant the donor also needs clearance by a nephrologist.
