Yes: Yes but the donor and recipient still must be tested to see if a match occurs. Family members as donors can improve the chances of a match, but do not guarantee a match.

Yes: In order to donate a kidney, the donor and recipient must be a match. Family members are often the first choice when it come to kidney donation, because they have the highest likelihood of being similar genetically. There are times though that even family members are not a good match ( a poor match increases the chance that a donate kidney will not work). In that case other people may be checked.

Transplant: It depends on several factors. Age is definitely an issue, but they often use extended criteria donor kidneys for older patients (the kidney may be older). I have seen transplant patients in their 80s get kidneys. The biggest issue is that the patient has to be stable enough (heart, lungs, body) to tolerate a transplant.
A 46-year-old member asked:

Immediately: Hopefully it will last your whole life and you will be able to tolerate the antirejection medications. Follow instructions carefully regarding your medications and avoid being around anyone that is sick. Protect your immune system and take care of your diabetes or hypertension if you have either of those illnesses. Vwork closely with your nephrologist and your transplant team.
A 36-year-old member asked:

What are the risks for kidney donors during a transplant? Can it be fatal?

Overall none : There can be some post operative complications sometimes, though not concerning and are related to surgery itself. Over all survival is same in the long term with some increase in bp, more often in black patients. Black and hispanic patients can develop more chronic kidney disease. 1 in 3500 donation is fatal.
