Anyone.: In the early days of transplantion the medications were not good enough to fight rejection so only close relatives could donate. Today you can get an organ from a spouse or fiend and have a similar of better result than receiving it from a matched organ from a decesead donor.

Non family donor OK: The living kidney donor does not have to be a family member as long as the blood types are compatible and the recipient does not have antibodies against the donor's proteins.
