Reduced acid: Usually long term use is not a problem- although suppressing acid for too long may lead to lack of complete digestion is some circumstances. Duodenal ulcers can be healed in 6-8 weeks of Omeprazole (or any other proton pump inhibitor or an h2 blocker). So unless there is chronic reflux, stopping therapy may be a good idea periodically.
