Alvogyl: After being treated with Alvogyl for a dry socket, you should be able to resume your normal activities with relative comfort. Follow the post care instructions provided by the dental professional caring for you and implement meticulous oral hygiene. A dry socket will usually take a little longer to heal so try to be patient as you continue to heal.

Don't disturb it: When the dressing was placed the dentist packed the socket so you should avoid brushing it away or poking at the socket, the pain will slowly go away, keep taking your medications and follow your dentist instructions. Stay well.

Dry socket: This condition occurs after tooth extraction, particularly after traumatic extraction, resulting in a dry appearance of the exposed bone in the socket, due to disintegration or loss of the blood clot. It is basically a focal bone infection without pus and is accompanied by severe pain (alveolalgia) and foul odor. It is also called alveolar osteitis and alveolitis sicca dolorosa.

You can: Try hydrogen peroxide rinses. Try to keep it around the extracted tooth area. It should help as emergency treatment. Please see your dentist for future treatments.

Clove oil: If you can't get in to a dentist, try cleaning it out and then using a bit of clove oil. Having osteoporosis really doesn't make any difference when it comes to how we treat a dry socket.

Pain: A dry socket can occur if a person has a tooth removed and then upsets the healing "clot". This can happen by any suction that can dislodge the clot from the socket, thus revealing the bony socket to the oral envirnoment. So, smoking, using a straw, or sucking up on the socket should be avoided.
