Depends on severity: Carpal tunnel surgery is a highly successful surgery getting right to the heart of the problem i.E the nerve is compressed and the surgery decompresses it. Almost everyone improves with regard to numbness and tingling as well as discomfort and weakness. Many people improve by the time they reach the recovery room, but others may take longer especially with co-morbities like dm or radiculopathy.

Several months: If you had numbness prior to surgery a way to determine the lenght of time for the nerve to recover would be to measure the number of inches from your incision to the tip of your long finger. The nuber of inches will be the length of time in months the nerve can take to recover if it ever will recover. Usually 6-9 months. Not all nerves will heal.

Depends: Give it time. This is a common problem that often improves as the nerve recovers.
