Ingrown portion: Needs to be cut out soaking and antibiotic cream/ointment may be of some help but problem will not resolve unless ingrown portion of nail is removed. Avoid tight fitting shoes.

Removal...: ...Is the only permanent solution. Just the painful border can be removed, or the entire nail if necessary. After removal you can let the border grow out again, or your doctor can use a chemical to stop the nail from regrowing. If you're concerned, don't perform bathroom surgery on yourself. That can lead to an infected ingrown toenail, which could require antibiotics.

Three treatment: If the ingrown nail is on this distal aspect, just clipping the ingrown nail border can be enough. Is is infection is present soaking the foot can relieve the pain and some of the infection. Oral antibiotics can be required. If the ingrown is deep and proximal the toe will be required local anesthesia and the ingrown border is remove. In cases is recurrence permanent procedure is recommended.
