What does a scab infected with staph look like?

May not be different: Without being able to see and culture this area there is no way to be sure that this is infected with staphylococcus aureus.

Not possible: "scabs" are composed of fibrin, platelets and red blood cells that are dead and dried. It cannot get infected. Remember that an important part of healing is inflammation (red, hot, swollen, tender) so if this is present it means you may be healing. Infected wounds get worse, pain increases and there may be pus. If not getting worse but is inflammed, it is getting better.
