Colonization: You have a combination of two factors. Nasal carriage of staph aureus and susceptibility to this organism. You can try to eliminate the first by using Mupirocin (bactroban) ointment in your nostrils daily, and washing exclusively with clorhexidine containing soap. The latter creates a thin film on your skin which, if washed off, will no longer kill the staph on your skin. Also, stop scratching.
