Depends : If a tooth is infected, Amoxicillin can help with the infection beyond the end of the root/roots, but it cannot get into the tooth and nerve (pulp) itself. That is what root canals and extractions are for. A common dosage for amox. Is 500 mg tablets, 3-4 per day for 10 days. Do not take one day and skip days. Need to take it all and be consistent and finish the prescribed dose.
