Won't work: Antibiotics will not fix the tooth, just mask the symptoms. See a local dentist who can advise you if the tooth is even restorable. If it is hopeless, it is better to have it taken out. Excess use of antibiotics can cause other problems down the road, and that is why you need to have the tooth treated asap.

Your doctor: Should have prescribed the dosing regimen for you. Please don't self medicate. If you did not see your dentist please do so to know what antibiotic would be appropriate for your particular situation. Amoxicillin though an effective antibiotic is not a panacea drug. Hope this helps.
