A member asked:

I have heard that pregnant woman after 35 must do amniocentesis. i am 34 and i will be 34 when i deliver baby.do i need amniocentesis necessarily?

Information, not Rqd: The risk of a chromosomal abnormality in any pregnancy increases from a low in the early 20's to a bit< 1% around 35. No one is required to get an amniocentesis, but many want to prepare for that possibility if they could be having a Down syndrome or other chromosome defect. Several metabolic diseases can also be detected. It is information some want & some don't.You have a choice.
