Self esteem: Comes from doing things you're proud of & not distorting or denigrating your accomplishments, abilities & basic human worth. Help the person be successful. If the person thinks negatively & distorts or denigrates their accomplishments, abilities or basic worth as a human being, get the person into counseling. Low self-esteem can lead to depression & self harm.

Low Self Esteem: Uncovering the origin of this teen;s low self esteem is very important, usually there are some fictional views of oneself that need to be assessed and re-addressed with the fresh eyes of others and particularly of a adolescent psychologist. Empathy is very important in listening and understanding his plight. Recommend therapy if his mood does not lift. Best.
