Abuse, neglect: Common causes of low self-esteem are beliefs that a person is unloved, unwanted, abandoned, rejected or worthless. Sometimes abuse, neglect, drug use, poor decisions and unfortunate situations may cause a person to suffer from low self-esteem. It is treatable.
