Anytime: Pain is that bad you should visit a doctor. In this particularly case an in office exam would be helpful as it could be a nerve related problem, or possibly circulatory related as the veins may be causing swelling andy putting pressure on nerves. Let a podiatrist check it out.

Nerves irritated: The nerves in the foot are being compressed. The fact that you mention the veins stand out means they are probably swollen (engorged) and can compress. Get checked. An ultrasound may be ordered to check the blood flow to the legs. Consider having your back checked too. Nerves in the feet stem from there and changes in back position can sometimes contribute to pain distally in the feet.
