Retinal migraine: Is characterized by characteristic changes in the vision called scintillating scotomas. These changes in vision can occur prior to, during, after, and in the absence of the migraine headache. They don't actually originate in the eye, but from the occipital cortex. The optic nerve is not usually affected nor is the retina. Retinal migraines do not damage the eyes but may affect vision this way.

Not on the nerve: Migraine does not usually effect the optic nerve. When vision is involved it usually due to migraine effect on the visual cortex of the brain. Another consideration is recurrent migraine causing stress and activating your MS. Speak to a neurologist for information about treatment of acute migraine and migraine prophylaxis.
