Nothing: Having clicking/popping symptoms only does not indicate any need for surgery. You may want to consider a nighttime splint just to keep the TMJ stable.

Possibly: Ten years is a long time to deal with tmj/tmd as it has become a chronic condition. You should see a TMJ specialist to be evaluated and get options. Surgery should be the last option.

No surgery!: If you are not experiencing any pain then simply monitoring the condition will suffice. Asymptomatic joint sounds do not require intervention.

Correct Bite: You may benefit from discussing this with your dentist, sometimes they can make simple corrections to your bite that will help. Some medications may be of benefit, but if you don't have any pain and only are experiencing a sound then probably no further treatment is necessary.

Monitor: I have had tmj/tmd myself for years, and the popping is really the only symptom that is noticeable. If you don't have pain, you should be able to deal with effectively without any type of surgery. But if you start developing some locking (limited opening or hard to close, ) then should consider seeing a specialist (not necessarily for surgery, though.).

Possibly: Sound probably due to the jaw disc being out of position. Disc out of position probably due to malocclusion. Please see an orthodontist.

No treatment needed: You are fortunate not to have pain. The noise in your joint (crepitus) suggests irregularity or roughness of the surfaces which articulate together. If your only symptom is noise, you are lucky. The only indication to treat a noisy and otherwise painless joint would be if the noise is so loud as to be socially problematic (others can hear it).
