Get 2nd opinion: Jaw surgery for TMJ dysfunction is always the very last choice and in my opinion is only needed in very specific situations. There are really some very simple treatments for TMJ dysfunction that you should discuss with a highly trained dentist in the area of TMJ dysfunction first. Most surgery patients I have seen still have many of the symptoms they started with.

Seek non-surgical: Surgery to advance the lower jaw, of and by itself, is not an effective TMJ treatment. Start w least invasive rx 1st. Correcting occlusion (ortho rx) combined w jaw surgery may be indicated, but not surgery of and by itself. Get an orthodontic consultation as part of your management program.
