Pain management: Pain sensation varies so much that it is impossible to describe. My experience will never be the same as yours. However, since post-operative discomfort is expected for many, your surgical team can help you manage it. This will be like any other surgeries--managing your condition will be just as important as surgery itself. Please ask your surgical team about what plan they have for you.

Not recommended: From the recent study conclusion: "Patients with preexisting TMJ dysfunction undergoing orthognathic surgery, particularly mandibular advancement, are likely to have significant worsening of the TMJ dysfunction postsurgery".

Very complex problem: Very complex problem. BEWARE if you are doing jaw advancement for TMJ. Make sure your surgeon is very sophisticated in this area.
