It is not normal: To be neutropenic unless your baby was sick at the time test was done . Will repeat blood test when baby is better. Monitor from there and refer to heme- onc if at some point the tests are abnormal for further testing/procedures. Discuss with your pediatrician please.

Neuropenia =abnormal: Neutropenia, low polymorphonucleocyte count, is never normal. However, interpretation of differential count may be inaccurate. Viral infections may lower the count, but in a one month old, neutropenia is highly correlated to sepsis and requires immediate investigation and treatment.

Maybe: Just how low the absolute neutrophil count goes, and whether junior has one of the not-uncommon genes that cause it to cycle, will determine the appropriate follow-up. This needs to be watched carefully if the initial level was very low. Good luck.
