What causes a numb like feeling in the arm and hands?

Reasons can include:: A disc herniation &/or spinal stenosis in the neck compressing nerves, a compression of the nerves somewhere in the arms like a carpal tunnel syndrome, a possible neuropathy ( nerve function affected by diabetes, vitamin deficiency among other sources) and even a neurologic problem like multiple sclerosis. The most common reason would be a carpal tunnel syndrome. If persisting, see your pcp.
