Tell your doctor: If you are having problems, tell your doctor. If you are type 2, there are other treatment choices beside insulin. If your doctor know you are having problem, you might need a change until you're ready.

Type 2 : First we need to establish why you are type 2 and on Insulin only. There are multiple oral medications and injectable rather than Insulin be use before insulin. Insulin is usually needed in the initial management of high glucose in type 2 until the pancreas recovers back some function. Glucose is toxic to the pancreas. Then blood glucose testing frequency depend on the use of oral versus insulin.
