Traumatic Injection: Sometimes during hypodermic injections a small vessel can be injured. This will lead to a self limited bruise. If, however, an expanding hematoma is identified, than a larger vessel may have been injured requiring evaluation and possible intervention. Also, if this is frequent issue that also may be a good reason to see your pcp as well.

Bruising: Bruising at the site of Insulin injection is quite common for persons with diabetes. It happens when you hit a small capillary blood vessel with the infusion set or syringe needle. There is no need for concern. Simply rotate to a different site until this area has healed.
