May be both: Insulin is definitely required for t1 diabetes. Many people will require Insulin for t2 diabetes if they don't lose weight to lower Insulin resistance, their pancreas fails with prolonged period of time, or the oral medication just isn't effective enough to control their glucose. Check w/your doctor.
